Gardens of Chatworth and its "Revelation" Garden Fountain

“Revelation,” the newest addition to the beautiful garden fountains of Chatsworth, was planned by renowned British sculptor Angela Conner. In commemoration of the Queen’s 80th birthday, she was mandated by the deceased 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth designed of brass and steel in 2004. One of Chatsworth’s most well-known ponds, Jack Pond, had “Revelation” mounted in it in 1999. Taking the shape of four big petals which open and close with the circulation of water, the steel water feature alternately conceals and displays a golden globe at the heart of the sculpture. A gold dust painted metal globe was made and added into the prominent sculpture standing five meters high and five meters in width. This latest fountain is an exciting and interesting addition to the Chatsworth Gardens, unique in that the movement of the petals is totally driven by water.

A Magnificent Example of Roman Talent: The Santa Maria in Cosmedin Fountain

Amazing discoveries of both Christian and pagan origin have been made by archaeologists and restorers in the area of Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The well-known marble sculpture called the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth) can be seen in the portico of the basilica nearby. When the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain was created in 1719, it was off the beaten track and mostly unknown as a result. Due to the fact that the nearby area was gloomy and mostly abandoned, visitors were not particularly interested in visiting it. As part of a project to refurbish the piazza outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri was commissioned by Pope Clement XI to design a fountain. August 11, 1717 saw the start of the work to lay down the foundation of the church. After blessing of the first stone, medals with the illustration of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and of St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were thrown into the foundation.
