Fountains: Furry Friends, Visiting Birds and You

Putting in an outdoor water fountain or a bird feeder will allow you to enjoy the natural presence of wildlife or pets. All birds need somewhere to drink, bathe and preen. Birds including robins, thrushes, orioles, or warblers favor the movement of water from a fountain and are not necessarily drawn to bird feeders. While bowl-shaped bird baths can be dull to many birds, fountains are more enticing because of the moving water they produce. Birds are highly attracted to the trickling and splashing sounds produced. p-569__66351.jpg

Dogs like fountains because they provide another place to drink fresh water. During the hot summer months, dogs and cats will be outside searching for fresh water. Constantly moving water is also going to require much less cleaning than a still bowl of water from a birdbath, which collects debris.

Characteristics of Garden Statuary in Archaic Greece

The Archaic Greeks built the first freestanding statuary, an impressive achievement as most sculptures up until then had been reliefs cut into walls and pillars. Younger, attractive male or female (kore) Greeks were the subject matter of most of the statues, or kouros figures. The kouroi, regarded by the Greeks to represent beauty, had one foot extended out of a strict forward-facing posture and the male figurines were always nude, with a strong, strong physique. Life-sized versions of the kouroi appeared beginning in 650 BC. The Archaic period was tumultuous for the Greeks as they evolved into more polished forms of government and art, and gained more information and facts about the peoples and cultures outside of Greece. However|Nevertheless|Nonetheless}, the Greek civilization was not slowed down by these fights.

Eco-Friendly Fountains: Good for the Planet

Have you always wanted to prettify the look of your residence? Solar water features might be the answer - they are a perfect add-on to any home because they embellish the design and raise the price of your home. They are the same as electric fountains in that they help with one's overall well-being but they also offer monetary benefits. Despite the high initial price, costs associated with these water features are worthwhile. Despite occasional power outages, your fountain will not be affected because it does not run on electricity.

Running water fountains means that your use of electricity will increase and thus your monthly bill. Even though you might not instantly see the short-term benefits, remember that your residence will undoubtedly gain in value in the long-term.

Spending more money on our electric bills is not the only downside - the environment is negatively affected too. The only source of energy used by solar powered water features is the sun making them a “green” option. Using solar energy to run a water feature is not only favorable to our environment but it also heats and cools our homes.

This type of fountain demands less upkeep than others. Since solar fountains don't have motors, they don't get clogged which leads to little cleaning. And this means more fun for you!

Acqua Vergine: The Answer to Rome's Water Troubles

With the development of the 1st elevated aqueduct in Rome, the Aqua Anio Vetus in 273 BC, folks who lived on the city’s foothills no longer had to rely solely on naturally-occurring spring water for their requirements.

When aqueducts or springs weren’t easily accessible, people living at higher elevations turned to water removed from underground or rainwater, which was made available by wells and cisterns. Starting in the sixteenth century, a new system was introduced, using Acqua Vergine’s subterranean sectors to generate water to Pincian Hill. Pozzi, or manholes, were built at regular intervals along the aqueduct’s channel. The manholes made it less demanding to thoroughly clean the channel, but it was also achievable to use buckets to extract water from the aqueduct, as we saw with Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi when he bought the property from 1543 to 1552, the year he passed away. The cistern he had built to collect rainwater wasn’t satisfactory to meet his water needs. By using an orifice to the aqueduct that ran below his property, he was set to fulfill his water needs.
