The Original Garden Fountains

Water fountains were initially practical in purpose, used to bring water from rivers or springs to towns and hamlets, providing the residents with fresh water to drink, wash, and cook with. The force of gravity was the power supply of water fountains up until the end of the 19th century, using the forceful power of water traveling downhill from a spring or creek to force the water through spigots or other outlets. The elegance and wonder of fountains make them appropriate for historical memorials. If you saw the first fountains, you probably would not identify them as fountains. angel cherub__67925.jpg A natural stone basin, carved from rock, was the first fountain, utilized for holding water for drinking and ceremonial functions. 2,000 BC is when the earliest known stone fountain basins were used. The first civilizations that used fountains relied on gravity to push water through spigots. Located near reservoirs or springs, the practical public water fountains provided the local population with fresh drinking water. Fountains with decorative Gods, mythological monsters, and animals began to show up in Rome in about 6 BC, built from natural stone and bronze. A well-designed collection of reservoirs and aqueducts kept Rome's public water fountains supplied with fresh water.

Chatsworth: The Revelation Water Fountain

The renowned UK sculptor Angela Conner planned the Chatsworth ornamental exterior fountain called “Revelation.” She was mandated by the late 11th Duke of Devonshire to create a limited edition bust of Queen Elizabeth, in 2004/5 in celebration of the Queen’s 80th birthday.

Jack Pond, one of Chatsworth’s earliest ponds, had “Revelation” put up in 1999. It takes on the form of four large petals crafted of metal which opens and closes with the water circulation, alternately camouflaging and exposing a golden globe at the sculpture’s heart. Standing five meters high and five meters wide, the globe was crafted from metal and then painted with gold dust. This newest water fountain is an interesting addition to the Chatsworth Gardens because the petals’ movement is entirely powered by water.

The Plusses of Disappearing Fountains in your Yard

A second term for a disappearing fountain is a “pondless” fountain. It is known as “disappearing” since the water source is below ground. Any area where there are people, such as a walking path, is ideal for a disappearing fountain since it adds pleasant sounds and a lovely visual effect. It is easy to find the kind that is right for you, as there are so many to choose from such as millstones, ceramic urns, waterfalls, and also those with granite columns.

Disappearing fountains also have many benefits. There is no large pool of water that could pose a risk to anyone since the water comes from beneath the ground. That said, you will not have to stress out about the security of your children. Moreover, you will not need to worry about losing water to evaporation since it is stored below ground. As a result, your fountain will not use as much water as other kinds of fountains. The time you spend on maintenanceis also minimized since algae does not grow underground and debris can not get into the water supply. Lastly, it is easier to find a space for it because of its small proportions.

Improve Your Workaday Life with a Fountain

From improving air quality to creating a feeling of tranquility to the area, a fountain adds so much to your life.

There are many advantages to having an indoor or outdoor water fountain which you may not even recognize. People around the world are compelled to go to coastal cities and major bodies of water, most likely influenced by the fact that our bodies have a high water content. All living beings need water to exist, and while you could move to an expensive house on the beach somewhere, a much easier and cheaper option is to install a water feature wherever you live.

Your patio, porch, or back yard can be improved by getting an outdoor garden fountain. Even if you are already happy with your outdoor area, the addition of one of the many outdoor fountains available will make you love it even more. A wonderful idea is to install one on the wall of your screened porch, or perhaps outside as part of your outdoor decor. Add elegance and the lovely sound of trickling water to your flower bed with a tiered model. The flow of the water in birdbath fountains, as compared to unmoving water, means that bacteria and algae will not accumulate in the water, making for fresher water for wild birds. Add the finishing touch with the enticing sound of running water in your garden.

The Benefits of a Water Feature in Your Workplace

Most customers love water fountains. A business or store with a beautiful water fountain in its entryway will entice customers and differentiate them from the competition. Such businesses as yoga studios, bookstores, coffee shops, and salons can financially profit from installing a water feature nearby. The right water fountain will provide a relaxing ambiance to a business where people enjoy meeting outdoors. A pub or restaurant should contemplate adding a water fountain to draw in couples seeking a romantic setting.
