The Benefits of a Fountain in Your Company Offices

Most customers consider water fountains are a great addition to a business. A business or store with a beautiful water fountain in its entrance will bring in customers and distinguish them from the competition. Yoga studios, bookstores, coffee shops, salons as well as other retail businesses can all benefit from including a visible water feature outdoors. p_703__71610.jpg For businesses where people like to hang out outdoors, a water fountain can provide a soothing environment. Couples out on a romantic date will definitely value a memorable fountain in any bar or restaurant.

The Various Designs in Outdoor Fountains

Gardens allow you to retreat into nature and be outside when you want. While it is not a simple process to build one, you will be happy you did once you are able to relax and enjoy it. Investing in a breathtaking garden is good, as it will increase the “curb appeal” and value of your home. Many people opt to add to their landscaping by putting in statues or other art, re-doing the pavement of their driveway, planting trees, or building a water feature.

The visual appeal of any garden can be really improved by simply adding a water fountain. A true fantasyland can be created from what used to be a very plain spot. The sounds of a water fountain make for a peaceful environment, not just for people but for the birds and other local wildlife that it will attract. Before you know it, the whole entire garden or yard will have a new center of attention.

Contained Water Fountains: Are They Convenient?

Stand-alone fountains are perfect for anyone looking for affordability and convenience. The plumbing, pump, and other components come along with the fountain.

Fountains that come with their own water supply are also referred to as “self-contained”.

Self-contained fountains are easy to install making them well suited for anyone needing a patio fountain. Their versatility is also a plus, as they are very uncomplicated to move around.

The landscaper will first check that the place where you want your fountain to go is flat. Lawns and gardens tend to be uneven so your landscaper will have to even out the spot where you want to install it. Your water feature is now ready for setup and the addition of water. The only thing left to do is to connect it to a power source such as batteries, a wall socket, or a solar panel, and it will be set to go.

If you need a fountain that will not require an outside water source or additional plumbing, a self-contained fountain is best. While a fountain can be a focal point anywhere in a garden, many people place them in the middle. You will find them in myriad differing materials such as cast stone, metal, ceramic, and fiberglass.

The Wondrous Santa Maria in Cosmedin Water Fountain in Rome

Both Christian and pagan relics have been found in large quantities by archaeologists and restorers searching the area of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin in Rome. The nearby basilica is largely famous for the marble sculpture known as the Bocca della Verità, (Mouth of Truth) located in its portico. The situation of the Santa Maria in Cosmedin fountain (1719) was not in a well-known area and was, therefore, not frequently visited. The part of town where it was located was depressing and bleak which was enough to keep visitors away. It was a this time that Pope Clement XI commissioned the Italian architect Carlo Bizzaccheri to put up a fountain to modernize the square outside the church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin. Work on the church's infrastructure started on on August 11, 1717. The first stone to be placed in the foundation was blessed and medallions bearing the images of the Blessed Virgin, for whom the church is named, and St. John the Baptist, the patron saint of water, were also thrown in.

Rome’s First Water Delivery Systems

With the building of the first elevated aqueduct in Rome, the Aqua Anio Vetus in 273 BC, individuals who lived on the city’s hillsides no longer had to depend exclusively on naturally-occurring spring water for their requirements. If citizens residing at higher elevations did not have access to springs or the aqueduct, they’d have to depend on the remaining existing systems of the time, cisterns that collected rainwater from the sky and subterranean wells that received the water from below ground. Beginning in the sixteenth century, a new strategy was introduced, using Acqua Vergine’s subterranean portions to generate water to Pincian Hill. As originally constructed, the aqueduct was provided along the length of its channel with pozzi (manholes) constructed at regular intervals. Though they were initially manufactured to make it possible to support the aqueduct, Cardinal Marcello Crescenzi started using the manholes to accumulate water from the channel, starting when he acquired the property in 1543. Even though the cardinal also had a cistern to amass rainwater, it couldn't produce sufficient water. That is when he made the decision to create an access point to the aqueduct that ran directly below his residential property.
